In light of the recent problems our club has suffered with discipline both on and off the field the executive committee decided that from this years AGM (April 2005) a discipline procedure would be set in place with a dedicated officer appointed to administer the system. In a nutshell it's easy; behave or be banned! No excuses, no favours for mates, etc. the discipline code applies to all club members. Please respect the game and the club On the Pitch Players receiving yellow cards for verbal abuse to either umpires or fellow player’s, is not acceptable for any reason. This will be stopped by introducing bans for offenders. 1. :- Any player receiving a yellow card for verbal abuse to the umpire or swearing on the pitch will receive a phone call warning the player of his future conduct on the pitch form the discipline committee. A further yellow card in the following 7 weeks will result in an automatic one match ban for the game that the player is next available for. For every subsequent yellow card (for verbal abuse) the ban is to be increased by 1 game per card. 2. :- Any club member receiving 4 yellow cards for other hockey related offences ie: Stick tackles, Foul play, will be interviewed by the discipline committee and suggestions to eradicate the problem will be made such as moving the player into a lower team for a minimum of 2 games, the theory being that if the player is constantly making poor tackles they are struggling and possibly playing at a level to high or are letting there team and North Notts Hockey Club down by playing reckless. If the player is a younger player playing in the 5th X1 then additional coaching and mentoring will possibly be suggested 3.- Any player receiving 3 yellow cards in a season for Unsporting conduct will receive a one match ban and also any subsequent cards after that will equal 1 ban per card. Off the Pitch Spectators The Club will adhere to the MRHA’s guide to pitch side conduct which states “It is the responsibility of the clubs to ensure that good manners and courtesy prevail towards the opposition, umpires and other officials before, during and after the game.” Any club member watching hockey will be subject to the same stringent discipline that players face. In the first instance it will be the playing captain’s responsibility to report any club members causing upset to players from either side or umpires. Fines 3. A £5 fine is introduced for any playing member that receives a yellow card for verbal abuse towards a umpire or player of either their own team or the opposition. This will be payable to the DO or captain on the same day of the offence or no later than Monday evenings selection meeting, any fine not paid for in this manner will stop a player from being selected for following weeks game. After Monday evening it is too late to pay it and you will still not be selected, you will automatically miss the game and will still be required to pay your fine before selection will be an option. The Captains Role The Captain will be responsible for players on the pitch and enforce discipline. It will also be the captain’s responsibility to record all cards for every game and report any yellow cards to the DO in a phone call no later than Sunday night after the game. This will be recorded correctly and any banned players will be forwarded to the selection meeting on Monday evening to ensure penalized players are not selected. Captains failing to report cards or deliberately misleading the discipline committee will be liable to the same suspension as the player who received the card. General Discipline The DO may inflict further punishments of players starting at lower teams and working back up the club after a ban. e.g. a third team player may be required to play a game in the 4ths before returning to the thirds. The DO reserves the right to rescind or impose subsequent bans with approval of at least 3 committee members for ANY other incident that reflects negatively on the club. The Discipline Committee The committee will be made up of the Discipline officer, Club President, Umpires Secretary and a senior representative from both the men’s and ladies. It will be the discipline committee’s responsibility to record all cards for the club and be able to produce evidence when required for club members. This Discipline procedure is aimed at getting our club back on-track both socially and on the playing side, we must take seriously the problems that are facing our club, we all have a duty to respect each other both on and of the pitch. The Committee have the absolute final word on all club related matters. Anyone not following the discipline code or continuously bringing the club into disrepute or a negative light can and will be banned from playing and associating with NNHC indefinitely…
